چکیده

T HE ASSOCIATION of a variety of chromosome abnormalities with human leukemias has been well established. The discovery of the Philadelphia chromosome is of particular significance because it is the first instance in which there is an association of a specific chromosome abnormality with a particular type of leukemia. The Philadelphia ( Ph1 ) chromosome is present in the marrow of most patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia, but has not been found in conditions resembling chronic myelogenous leukemia such as leukemoid reactions, polycythemia vera, agnogenic myeloid metaplasia or myelofibrosis. 5 It has been presumed that the Pht chromosome occurs uniquely in leukemic cells, since it has not been found in cultured skin from patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia.4 Two recent preliminary reports suggest, however, that it may occur in erythroid precursors and megakaryocytes of such patients.5-7 The present report confirms and extends these findings.

Function of Neutrophils in Different Phases of Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia

In chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), the mature granulocytes originate from a stem cell line harboring an abnormal chromosome, therefore it is possible that metabolic-functional abnormalities occur in the morphologically mature cells. In the present study, the phagocytic activity including intracellular killing, nitro blue tetrazolium (NBT) reduction, and phagocytosis were studied in 37 CML p...

Pregnancy Outcome of Two Patients with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia Treated with Imatinib

Although chronic myelogenous leukemia in pregnancy is rare, its management and treatment is more difficult and complicated.Treatment of patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia includes bone marrow transplantation, however in less than 30% of patients the donor’s organ would be accepted. To this end, cytotoxic therapy is considered as an alternative therapeutic option. This option provides sa...

MiR-570 inhibits cell proliferation and glucose metabolism by targeting IRS1 and IRS2 in human chronic myelogenous leukemia

Objective(s): Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) is a chronic myeloproliferative disorder characterized by the accumulation of myeloid cells with a chromosomal translocation known as the Philadelphia chromosome. In this study, we investigated the roles of miR-570 in CML development. Materials and Methods: Expression of miR-570 in CML samples and cell lines was determined by qRT-PCR. Glucose upt...

Persistence of chromosomal abnormalities additional to the Philadelphia chromosome after Philadelphia chromosome disappearance during imatinib therapy for chronic myeloid leukemia.

Five Philadelphia chromosome positive (Ph+) chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients with additional chromosome abnormalities at diagnosis have been followed during Imatinib therapy. In all, the Ph chromosome disappeared, while the 5 cases, additional abnormalities [dup(1); del(5), +8 (2 patients) and +14] persisted in the subsequent studies, performed over a period of 11 to 49 months, either al...
